From the Project Menu, click on "Project
Sub-area Manager". |

The resulting page will show a list of subarea shapefiles
that have been uploaded in the past. If no subarea
shapefiles are available, you can upload a new shapefile
from this
page. |

To upload a new subarea shapefile, click on "Upload
Subarea Layer Shapefile" near the bottom of
the screen. |

4.
Enter the name for your subarea layer and then click
on "Browse" to
select the shapefile on your computer you'd like
to upload.
- The
shapefile must be in the Geographic NAD83 coordinate
system.
- The
shapefile must be zipped with a program such as WinZip.
- The
zip file should include the .shp, .shx and .dbf for
the shapefile.
- You
should have a field in your shapefile database
file (.DBF) called SUB_NAME that specifies
the name of
each subarea.

5.
Click on "Upload Selected Shapefile" to
start your upload. |

6. Follow the steps below once
the shapefile has been uploaded:
- Once the shapefile has passed verification, click on the link to have Places process the shapefile.
- While Places is processing the shapefile, the page will reload automatically.
- Once processing is done, click on the link to go back to the Sub-Area Manager.
- Click on the sub-area name link next to the sub-area you just uploaded.

7.

Note: Sub-areas that do not have any overlapping parcels will not be listed. |

8. Click
on the link at the bottom of the page to go back to the Project
Subarea Menu. |

9. Functions available on the Sub-area Menu
- Clicking on the subarea layer name will show you
the same parcel
statistics shown in step 8.
- To be able to view the subarea on the map, you
must first check the "Viewable on Map" checkbox
next to the subarea
layer and then click "Save Changes".

The original subarea shapefile uploaded to Places
can be
downloaded by clicking the "Download Shapefile" link.
- The subarea layer can be completely removed from
Places by
clicking on the "Delete Subarea" link.

10. To
view the subarea layer on the map, navigate back to the "Scenario
Functions Menu" page for one of your project scenarios.
Click on
"Apply Place Types Using Map". |

11. The
subarea layers that have been marked as "Viewable on
Map" will be listed under "Subarea Layers" in the left column.
Mark the box next to one of your layers and then click the "Redraw"
button. |

12. The
subarea layer shapes will now be visible on the map. In this
example, there are four large subarea shapes. The subarea
shapes are outlined with thick black lines. |
