Lesson 3 - Working in the Map View – Marking Place Types

1. The most important function of this map is the MARK PLACE TYPE function, located above the map. This function allows you to change land uses on the map. To do this:
Visually locate the parcel you want to change. If it looks too small to easily click on, use ZOOMIN to make it larger and get it into view.

2. You must have "Mark Place Type" selected to mark parcels on the map.

Click on MARK PLACE TYPE at the top of the screen

3. All of the place types available for the project are listed in the drop-down menu underneath "Mark Place Type".

1. Enter the percent coverage of the place type being laid down. This represents the physical percentage of the acreage that is being redeveloped for the parcel.
2. Enter the percent development. This represents the density that the place type is applied at.
3. Enter the percent underbuild. This represents the hold out for streets, parks, etc.
4. Select a place type from the drop-down menu.
5. Click on the parcel you want to mark the place type to (Note: You can change the place type on multiple parcels by dragging a box across the parcels)

NOTE: Only parcels identified as existing development will be Redeveloped. Such parcels are flagged with an "X" in the Developed field of the .dbf. If vacant parcels are marked in Redevelopment Mode, they will be updated with the new Place Type, but will not be considered "Redeveloped."

4. The parcel now has a new place type. If you select IDENTIFY and click on the parcel, you’ll see that the place type reflects what you just applied.

5. Quick indicators can be viewed by clicking the "Quick Indicators" link below the map. The quick indicators show the change from the "Base Case" for the following statistics:

  • Employees
  • Dwelling Units
  • Developed Acres
  • Reinvestment Acres
  • Click on the QUICK INDICATORS link below the map

    6. If you need to undo the last mark action on the map, click the "Undo Last Mark Action" link and then follow the instructions.

Click UNDO LAST MARK ACTION and then follow the instructions
