1. SCENARIO
MENU – Look at the bottom box labeled "Scenario Functions."
Click
on "APPLY PLACE TYPES USING MAP"
There are many basic functions found in the map view to enable you
to move around and accomplish tasks within the map. |

Zooming In
With this function, you can either:
a. Select magnification (2X,4X,8X,12X) then click on a place on the
map, or
b. Draw a box around the map area you want to zoom in on
2. To select a specific magnification, the map will zoom in on the
location that is clicked on the map. (It's often times more useful
to use
the map at a map size 2X, as more of the map can be seen at a time.)
Mark
ZOOMIN (located above the map) and click on the center of the
map

3. To draw a box around a specific area of the map to zoom in on

ZOOMIN (located above the map) click and drag a box around the
area you want to zoom in

Zooming Out
With this function, you can either:

Changing
the Map Size
The default
map size is very small. To increase the map size:
Pick
2X from the Map Size drop down menu (located left of the map)
and then click “REDRAW”
6. The map
area will now be double the beginning size.

Panning the Map
7. With this function, when you click on an area of the map,
the map will center on the selected point.
Mark
PAN (located above the map) click a point on the map where
you want the map re-centered
The map will now be centered on the location clicked above.

Identifying Feature
8. With this function you can identify a feature (such
as a parcel, highway, road or the longitude/latitude of a certain
point)
Mark
IDENTIFY (located above the map) and select the type of feature
you wish to identify from its drop-down menu to the right
On the map, click on the feature you want to identify

9. ID RESULTS will
appear in the small yellow box just above the map. For parcel queries,
the results will display the parcel place
type in the box along with the place type percentage.
Click
on the place type link to see more detailed information for the
parcel

10. This page
contains three areas of information. The top box, "PARCEL
INFORMATION FROM DBF FILE", contains information from the original
parcel file uploaded to Places. The middle box, "PARCEL STATISTICS",
contains statistics calculated by Places for that parcel. The bottom box contains
information about any redevelopment that has taken place. |

Mark Place Type
11. The most important function of this map is
the MARK PLACE TYPE function. This function allows you to change
land
uses on the map.

3: Working with the Map - Marking Place Types

Layers
12. Familiarize yourself with the layers shown on
the map. They can be turned on or off by checking the box to the
left of the
layer name and then clicking “REDRAW”. Notice the scale
at which some of these layers are more or less useful. For example, "Parcel
Lines" are not very useful when zoomed out, but become more
important when zoomed in.
To
turn a layer on or off, click its check box, then click “REDRAW”
